Counseling for Underserved Populations

Do you feel comfortable with your ability to effectively interact with those populations that are traditionally underserved by family planning?   This population includes teens, males, sexual minorities, homeless, recently unemployed and limited English proficiency clients. This skill-based workshop is designed to guide family planning staff through the elements of Client-Centered Counseling. The practical application of specific and appropriate skills to use within the family planning setting will be explored. Attend this training event if you want to learn effective communication and counseling strategies that will help create more productive and rewarding relationships with the typically underserved populations.

Fundamentals of HIV Prevention Counseling

This 4-day course is designed to improve the ability of staff in a variety of health care settings to assist their clients in reducing their risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV. Participants who attend this workshop will be eligible to complete the HIV prevention counseling and testing proficiency examination process for AACO-required certification. Successful completion of the examination process will enable non-clinical staff to receive an AACO-assigned counselor identification number.
