Description:

Every year, about 12,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and 4,000 women die from this disease in the U.S. Two vaccines are currently available to prevent the human papillomavirus (HPV) types that cause most cervical cancers. Both vaccines are highly effective in preventing the targeted HPV types in men and women, as well as the most common health problems caused by them. This webinar is designed to inform clinicians about the HPV vaccine and promote increased usage in the clinical setting. |

- Explain how the HPV vaccine works, its usage, and safety.
- Identify methods for educating patients and implementing HPV vaccination in clinical settings.

Maria Trent, MD, MPH, FAAP, FSAHM is an Associate Professor, General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine with a joint appointment in the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Trent provides primary and subspecialty clinical care to children, adolescents, and young adults as part of the Harriet Lane Teaching Service within the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.

Amber D’Souza, PhD, MPH is an Assistant Professor in the Viral Oncology Program, Cancer Prevention & Control Program at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr D'Souza's primary research interest is in infectious causes of cancer. Current research explores the association between Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and oral, cervical and anal cancers, the natural history and concordance of oral and anogenital HPV infection, and HPV tropism.
